Last week (on Halloween, in fact), I went and did some light grocery shopping. I was hitting up the veggies when I saw the basket of squashes: acorn, pumpkin, and spaghetti. I had always wanted to try the spaghetti squash... and by always, I mean "right when I saw it." I think that I had always been intrigued, though. Was it really like spaghetti? How would one cook it to get it all strand-y? So, I put it into my basket, excited to take it home and try it.

Today, on a day when I wasn't expecting Shoes (who, for some reason, showed no interest or sense of adventure when I plunked down the squash on the counter), I decided to try something new, which I thought would be a new "something" on this blog. Anyways. I did everything I was supposed to: I baked it for an hour (I just plunked it in there!). I cut it in half. I took out the seeds. The most fun was taking the fork and letting the strands just fall out. That was pretty cool.

I cooked up some mushrooms and onions in some garlic butter, as well as the squash. I then put some pesto on it and some goat cheese. Voila, I thought, look at me make a healthy and delicious meal!

Well, it was pretty okay... but I can't say it was my favourite. Maybe it was because I forgot to add salt and pepper (d'oh!). Maybe it was because it was a little sweet (what else did I think it would taste like, I'm not certain). But I didn't care for it. Ah well. Maybe one day I will try my hand at this again!
